Dead Sea

A huge, calm lake sparkles beneath the hot sun. Near the shore, people are swimming and bathing. But under the water there is not a fish to be seen, and there are hardly any plants growing near the bare, rocky shore. This is because we are speaking about at the Dead Sea – the saltiest water in the world.

The Dead Sea lies between the countries of Jordan and Israel in the Middle East, at the bottom of the valley. But this is not the valley which was born away by a river .This is a valley which was made when a big piece of the earth’s crust sank. The water in the Dead Sea is very salty-about nine times saltier than the ocean. And for salt that entire people have to do is to wait till hot sun dry up the water leaving the crusty salts as thick deposits behind.
